Houston: Beyond School – A High School Leadership Workshop
On December 3, 2005, Indify hosted a high school leadership workshop for local Indian-American students. Despite their initial skepticism about the workshop, twenty-two students from six different high schools spent the day exploring “what is leadership†through activities, discussions and problem-solving. The morning opened with team-building games, helping to create an atmosphere of openness and allowing students to use their creativity. The first session focused on qualities of leadership and which qualities are most important for effective leadership. It also explored spheres of influence and how in small ways leadership can be practiced.
The afternoon sessions focused on creativity, giving students an opportunity to work together, develop their presentation skills, and use their problem solving capabilities. The aim of the workshop was to give students a chance to understand the value of building leadership skills, enhance leadership capabilities and use creativity to find solutions to difficult situations.
Most students appreciated the opportunity and provided excellent feedback for future workshops. The workshop was co-sponsored by Be The Cause and Charity Focus Houston.
