Be the Cause - Houston

Be the Cause Houston started out as one individual’s journey into service. It was simply an experiment to see if one person can make a difference in her community and thus in her own life. One of the very first events was the service fair at Baylor that really blew up the service scene for BTC Houston as over 50 individuals signed up to volunteer that day. Since then, many individuals and organizations have come together to plan and participate in service events that have created waves of inspiration and brought much goodness in the lives of many individuals.

We would like to invite you to participate in one of our many ongoing service projects. More information below.

Creating a community service project can be very rewarding and also a lot of fun. If you are interested in getting something started in your area, fill out our volunteer form and one of our volunteers will contact you shortly. Food for Life in Houston Every Sunday
Date: Sun Aug 24
When: 3:00 - 5:00pm
Address: 1320 West 34th Street,Houston,TX 77018 (MAP)

All it takes is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a piece of fresh fruit, and one half-pint of juice to keep a child from going hungry for a day.

This is why each week since April 2004, groups of about 15 to 20 volunteers have been coming out to The Hare Krishna Temple of Houston to prepare sack lunches consisting of sandwiches, fruit, and juice for an estimated 300 to 500 hungry children. Every Sunday between the hours 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the dining hall of the temple is turned into an assembly line of sorts with some of the volunteers lined up spreading peanut butter or jelly on bread; others focus on bagging the sandwiches; still others fill brown paper bags with fruit and juice and line them up in rows on two long tables. It takes time, but in the process, volunteers can talk and joke and maybe even strike up a friendship or two.

If you cannot join the volunteers on Sundays in Houston, you can donate with a google checkout account.
