| Description | Be the Cause wants to share powerful stories of struggle, hope, and survival in a creative and engaging way by organizing an Evening of Awareness on Domestic Violence.
Through performance art, storytelling, and narrative, the Domestic Violence Monologues will bring attention to a largely invisible issue affecting women, men, and children. Scheduled for September/October, the performance will highlight Domestic Violence Awareness month, mobilizing the community to take action to end violence.
In the past Be the Cause has organized Evenings of Awareness by bringing experts on topics to deliver lectures. This time we want to reach out to those that have been affected, hear their stories and present those real-life stories as monologues that will be delivered by actors during a theatrical performance. By doing this, we hope the audience will connect emotionally at a much deeper level.
The UN has reported that globally 1 in 3 women will be raped, beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Boys under the age of 12 are at the most risk of sexual abuse, while girls between the ages of 16-24 are at the highest risk of sexual assault. Many times batterers themselves have been directly victimized and/or witnessed violence in the home. The cycle of violence repeats for those who are never given the support to realize healthier lives.
As human beings we all deserve to be safe within our homes and to live without the fear of being physically, mentally, emotionally, and sexually violated. We all deserve to be respected and nurtured, equipped to make our own decisions and contribute to society in our individual ways. When we raise our own awareness, we are better able to empower others and break the silence.
