Walk for Hope Write Up

Post Event Media Release:

Imagine a charity event where the organizers don’t ask you for any donations but in turn, give to you freely. That is exactly what one non-profit organization – Be the Cause – does every year. For the past 10 years, Be the Cause has been organizing a walkathon called “Walk for Hope” with a unique perspective: A walkathon with thought-provoking activities, free lunch for the walkers, inspirational quotes, free concert, and no registration fee.

An idea that sprung as an answer to the 9/11 attacks, has become an event that continues to inspire its attendees to become better citizens and do good. “Today was amazing, inspiring and uplifting! Great to share the positive vibration,” mentioned Briana Kai one of the 500 plus attendees at the 10th Annual Walk for Hope held on October 15 at the El Dorado Park in Long Beach, CA.

In honor of all those who lost their lives to the terrorist attack 10 years ago, the main activity at the Walk for Hope asked a poignant question: What do you want to do before you die? By high noon, the 32ft x 8ft monument was chalked with answers as simple as “go to Disneyland,” to as heartfelt as “meet the stranger who saved my life,” to as selfless as “donate all my money to charity.” The wall was simply awe-inspiring.

The other smaller activities also made you stop and think: Who do I want to forgive? Or if I were to write a letter to myself and read it six months later, what would I write? And the two-mile walk, adorned with beautifully handcrafted quotes, reminded the Walkers the true meaning of Life.

While Volunteers served free lunch to the Walkers, up and coming artists – Hoodini and Baagi, Nishi Munshi, Tasneem, Elephant with Guns, and Rebels to the Grain – entertained the crowd with lyrical talents and amazing voices all in the spirit of giving freely. Be the Cause also thanks Jay Bharat, Inc., Nirvana Beverly Hills, Pure Water Plus, 3D Sounds, interval.in, and an Anonymous Well-wisher who sent cash via mail, for helping bring the Walk for Hope to the community.

Since conception in 2002, Be the Cause has organized over 400 projects in numerous countries all through the efforts of volunteers alone. In September, 10 Be the Cause Volunteers made their way to Haiti to provide humanitarian aid to the earthquake victims. Run virtually with no office space, Be the Cause prides itself on having no paid staff and being managed by volunteers who give freely of their time.
